The Golden Retriever was first found in the British Isles, and was thought to be a cross between a yellow flat coated retriever and the light coated tweed water Spaniel, and possibly the Bloodhound. The breed itself was first found as the Golden Flat-Coat. The Golden Retriever is now seen as one of the top family dogs. They are known for having superb obedience and being top in competitions.

The Golden is known for its retrieving skills and is a fine bird dog. The Golden has a great sense and was known not only for its hunting and retrieving skills but also for its use in narcotics detection. The Golden is known to be very smart and compassionate as well - this is why they have been used as a guide dog for the blind and for use in therapy.

Golden Retrievers' Appearance

The Golden Retriever is a beautiful dog with a study body and well proportion frame. The coat is what is most recognizable. The coat is medium length and feathered in either a cream color or a golden tone. The coat has two layers. The top layer is water-repellent and the under coat is dense. The Golden has a broad head and a scissors bite. The tail is long, and the chest is broad. The eyes of the Golden Retriever are filled with kindness and emotion. They are seen as strong, protective and kind.
